Cafarella, Lee Named Sloan Fellows

We're thrilled that two of our faculty have been selected as Sloan Fellows: Michael Cafarella for his work in mining and processing large and distributed datasets, and Honglak Lee for his work in deep learning and representation learning.

Wiens Fights C. difficile

Prof. Jenna Wiens is a part of the U-M research team that has launched an NIH-funded $9.2 million effort to prevent and treat C. difficile infections. Wiens will use machine learning to predict the probability of infections.

Lee Named Rackham Fellow

PhD candidate Doowon Lee has been awarded a Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship to support his research while he completes his dissertation, Low-Cost Comprehensive Robustness for Modern Heterogeneous Systems.

Chao Named Google Fellow

Graduate student Yu-Wei Chao has been selected for a Google PhD Fellowship for the 2016-17 academic year. Yu-Wei was chosen on the basis of his work in computer vision and machine learning.

Chowdhury: Google Research Award

Prof. Mosharaf Chowdhury has been awarded a 2016 Google Faculty Research Award for his work in network-aware analytics of geo-distributed datasets, with a goal of improved application-level performance.
